At the moment I'm using a Spyder 5 Express on my main monitor (Dell U2412M) using the DispcalGUI + Agryll software.

It's great, and far better than how my monitor was at first, but I'm regretting not buying the i1 Pro (which costs like $80 more), because it's a lot faster and compatible with monitors that have a LUT table for hardware calibration.

Anyways, if your monitor is cheap, software calibration wont work well, and it's hard to deal with the color management of all the software (per example, the XYZ profiles that DispcalGUI uses as defaut aren't completely compatible with Photoshop, but you can use the curves + matrix one).

Have a (Samsung SyncMaster BX2440 24") I don't know if it's good or not.
i1 Pro costs more but if the quality difference is a lot I'll try to take it instead spyder.
