It hasn't. After all it was planned and executed as an IDE. Making something scriptable doesn't mean inner platform effect.

However, having a platform for text based application that happen to have a text editor beside a browser, a mail program and a lot of other applications does.

Well, my disk has more than 1 GB of space and getting a 100 MB bundle is about 4 seconds of actual downloading and probably less than a minute of finding it.
That's like 10 minutes of something I have to do only once.
I'd probably have to spend twice as much time to make vim usable for anything else than fizzbuzz.

IntelliJ and PyCharm are free and they're decent enough.

but pic related is a basic laravel application

remember, phpstorm runs through all of that shit and links it together so you have fancy "intellesense" (with support for phpdoc comments for extended intellesence support)

You are in a world of pain to think that. Java is inherently slower than C++. It only has some optimizations that normal C++ compilers are capable of. In fact, the only place Java is actually faster than C++ is in nested loops. That is if /02 (VS compiler) or -03 (GCC) flags are not set.

Wrong. Java is faster, the JIT produces optimal code for the current CPU, it's not limited to generic i386 stuff.

If you use IntelliJ Idea CE you can actually use any Java-based language.

And have great

for either of them. Since there are many frameworks for Java and Java based languages, you can program pretty much everything in Java. Obviously if you're into embedded programming this isn't for you, but not everybody is. So IntelliJ Idea CE is a great choice if it does what you need, and it probably does more than you knew you needed before.

Their IDEs are god tier and there are extensions for every relevant framework. What's not to like?

PHP is somewhat close to being tolerable if you work with PHPStorm. It's almost like a shitty java. Considering how terrible this accident of a language is, that's quite an accomplishment.

Also it's so fucking obvious how much better IntelliJ is than shitlipse that it's almost funny.

What the fuck are you guys even discussing? Languages don't have speeds. I can write slow as fuck C++ applications quite easily.

It's all about the compiler, optimizations, runtime environments, and acceptable speeds within the boundaries of your use case.
