can anyone run this C code and tell me why typing in "10" results in the variable "i" incrementing once, but not a second time if you type "10" in again?

this is fucking bullshit. A while ago I removed the single quotes on the second 9 in line 30 and the game worked flawlessly. If I do that now, the i doesn't even increment

Maybe you should start by properly formatting your code. That pile of text is unreadable like that. If you format code, logical errors like long boolean expressions already become apparent pretty quickly, along with other details like if you have to hardcode steps.

why are you checking if grid[][] > 9?
your problem seems not to be why its not incrementing but why is it incrementing the 1st time, cause it shouldnt

you are decrementing slot and hten using it to check do while.

on line 27 change --slot to (slot-1)
