You will never be hired for a job simply for knowing scheme, or Haskell, or just about any language you could name that isn't C/C++. You can reasonably expect to be hired for knowing C/C++, but not the language the job will require. It's assumed that you are smart, and dedicated so picking up the new language won't be a problem for you.
