With Windows 10 being a total botnet, I'd like to switch to a lesser botnet.

OSX.

I'd like to build a hackintosh, but I want it to be fully functional like a normal Mac Pro

I know I need to buy very specific hardware though, any tips on building one?

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but it can't be done. Hackintoshes are eternally buggy crap. People deny it and say that theirs is totally stable but once a new patch hits it generally fucks things up. It's just a hopeless sort of situation. Worse than running Linux which is already a clusterfuck.

OS X has 36.6% of the Steam library, and Linux has 23.0%. Linux support is quickly growing; there have even been some games recently that launched on Linux but not OS X. See: Dying Light.

Not that this comes for free, you'll kinda have to play solo maintainer to keep your software up-to-date, good luck finding any co-maintainers in most instances.

fellow hackintosher here

if you want out of the box support the following list of parts work great...

any stock, reference intel z87 chipset, base motherboard will work. gigabyte, and for awhile, has had the best out of box experience. intel network controller and realtek alc1150 for best audio support.

any first generation haswell processor.

any ddr3 ram.

nvidia's 6xx and 7xx series except the 750/750ti work out of the box with apples own display drivers. 9xx and 750x series require nvidia's alternative driver from nvidia's website to work. apple's own drivers do not work with maxwell 1 or 2.

most amd 7xxx series work out of the box. 2xx series and above not so much.

z97 does work, but its iffy. i've ran into speedstep issues with my 4970k and others have as well. only apple products that shipped with z97 where the 5k imacs and the 5k imacs smbios have a energy saving focused cpu power management.

overall hackintoshes do work extremely well, just make sure you really look into the hardware.

I have an Asus mobo which is not good apparently.

p8z77-v with my 3570k.

I tried for a gigabyte but I got 2 DoA ones from Microcenter and didn't wanna risk it with a 3rd, that was a weird experience though.

I might just buy a used mobo and hackintosh this.
