Sure they are, that's a part of the tracking algorithm. The point is that a person has the power to do this to any 'suspect' they want, and it proves that the cellular companies are complicit in this.

If you use a cell phone you're using a service that's being provided by a company that's in partnership with all kinds of people. You really have no reason to assume or even expect the content of your calls or the data derived from the device's daily operation to be private in any way. This is really no worse than just using cell towers to do this.

Well i'd believe that they're let go only because it'd be cumbersome to try to deal with all of that bulk data at once but there's nothing stopping someone from running it through an algorithm and looking for other suspicious persons while they're out. In fact, who's to say that they were even looking for someone in the first place. Why not just fly around and collect data and have your computers decide who should be surveiled further. But then again it all becomes a moot point again because all of that data is collected anyway. There's really no need for the plane, even when looking for someone. It's just something else that can be done, and people are getting riled up about it simply because it's exotic, but it doesn't do anything new. Governments and your cellphone provider could do this all just as easily without the plane.

This thing entirely depends on your phone hooking up to the strongest signal available. Don't know about smartphones, but every single dumphone I had has an option to choose between automatic network selection and manual. If you choose manual, it will stay connected to the selected network even if others have better reception.

Also, how should we locate people being investigated? Ask them for permission? Give them a heads up? Use more low tech means to gsthet information because it makes you butthurt to think that the police can use technology to aid in investigstions?
