I'm on 7 and I've decided to move up but nobody is seeding Win8 torrents, and I want a start menu with an actual Windows logo not that ugly shell from the third party thing... so I guess I'm going with 10 for now.

tried win10 but it was buggy as shit and without the ability to change welcome screen wallpaper or change searching behavior that they made available in win8.1. The "new" start is even worse than metro wtf microsoft.

win8.1 is also pretty shitty, the new "features" in power management and other places have been a headache to iron out.

I don't dislike 10, it's just VERY VERY obvious that they rushed the update out at the last minute to meet some bullshit deadline. It's also geared towards dumb 'consumer' cattle, I'll wait for their Threshold R2 or Redstone which are supposed to be more stable and 'enterprisey'

The task bar crashed the first day I upgraded from 8.1.
That was when I learned that the start menu is a fucking APP instead of being an integral part of the OS.
I rolled back to 8.1 immediately.

Oh yea I do remember a couple of times that the start menu stopped opening. But that wasn't actually an issue for me since I'm using a replacement for it, I only stumbled across it because I tried to force open the official one.

But yeah, that bug's pretty bad.

Like that time Win10 forcced an incompatible AMD driver onto me, right? I had one that worked perfectly fine, but Win10 decided nope, it's not WHQL enough, here let me just install this other driver aaaaand woops, every time the UI changes, the drivers will crash and restart.

Fucking stupid. Microsoft is shooting their own foot every turn.

That's not really what kills an OS, you know. Lack of updates isn't that important, since you can take preventive measures to avoid getting attacked through unpatched exploits.

What really kills an OS is lack of support from third-party software. If an OS can't even run your programs, it might as well be dead.

tl;dr:
7 won't die until modern programs stop working on it.

If you just need the Windows 8.1 install iso... I think this will do it for you.
Then you just need whatever you're going to use to break the Windows Activation, or an 8.1 key, upon / after install.

Been on 10 for a while now on my fast desktop, my old laptop, and my cheap HTPC. Only issue I've had so far is that the start menu bug appeared once on my HTPC, which is running the preview version, so I won't blame that for being less stable.
