Is the Lenovo Y50 considered good value for money?
I'm not after a gaming laptop per se, just a powerful workhorse (e.g. for Photoshop) that could also dabble in light gaming.

Are there better alternatives that don't shit out on heat/noise/battery life etc?

Two mac-fags in my SolidWorks class bought these after the proff said you need to have windows. Both fags ended up breaking their computers after a week. I'm not sure whos at fault, but i can only assume.

Buy a Ultrabook with iGpu support so that it has good power consumption, and optmized battery life.

I have the Y50 and it is a decent machine. The screen is good, not the best though. The battery life is what you'd expect from a gaming laptop. Performance is good too, I should have gotten one with an SSD though

My only complaints are that the best GPU you can get is a maxwell 860m/960m, and the 4710/20HQ does not turbo at all while gaming.

I had an asus mid tier laptop. 24 mos wrty. dvd drive replaced within wrty. hinges and lcd needed to be changed after 3 yrs of use. Mobo died after 6 yrs of abuse.

I'm using a 3 yr old lenovo y580 gaymen laptop. inb4 y50 was released. 24 mos wrty. hdd, hinges and 1 usb port had issues but were covered under wrty.

Get the y500 model with a 1080p screen. The y50 feels a whole lot flimsier and the fan is permanently spinning during operation. y500 runs cooler but you'll have to be prepared for a much much weaker gpu.
