I found learning with MSVC was a breeze, but it comes down to what you intend to do. Pay ZERO attention to anyone who gives ANY gripes about performance or portability, one of my first hurdles with programming was trying to consider way too much stupid shit that did not affect me. It has been proven that Intel's compilers out-perform MSVC. Why should you give a single fuck? Right now, all you need to do, is learn your language, and see what it does. Everything else is just expertise-wank, completely irrelevant to you. Make mistakes and learn from them.
