My mint computer boots in a few seconds and it has disk encryption. The javascript bloat in cinnamon is laggy though.

Im using kde 64 bit mint though. cinnimon is a joke, so it's likely slower

Mint is so finicky. I had a hell of a time trying to update to the latest nvidia drivers. Also, installing openGL just didn't werk

I can boot kde on 5 seconds on my SSD.

Nice b8. Anyway, I'm running Mint right now actually. It's weird because it's widely used so I thought there'd be a lot of interesting information about it. Somehow I always seem to find stuff on Arch and Debian instead. I think I liked Crunchbang better as an introductory distro. Probably going to move on to something else soon, although getting everything working on this shitty Chromebook is always annoying as hell.

Are you booting up infinite monkeys or something? Running the OS from memristor storage of some kind? THOR drives? 1x opticals? Tape? Are you coding it by hand in real time?

On what hardware would it take hours to boot from in the modern world 'cause for me using a 7200 rpm laptop hard drive Linux Mint 17.2 cold boots to the login screen in about 27 seconds.

If you think 27 seconds is "hours" then son, you've got a condition.
