Is there any decent, non botnet alternative to Skype?

I talk to, and tutor a lot of people using Skype and use its screen sharing feature a lot, but I want to get away from the Microsoft botnet. I want to talk to people over a different platform but haven't found any decent alternative.

I've uninstalled Skype and can't download it anymore because I null routed all Microsoft's IPs.
