Took the cooler off and there was way too much paste, not sure if it was from the manufacturer or some pleb(got it preowned), so I scraped it all off and replaced it with

Moral of this story? The thermal paste is meant to provide a very thin layer to remove the air in between the processing unit and the heatsink. The less you use, the better results you'll see(within reason)
