Yes, chromebooks sold well (initially), but the hook is that nobody fucking used them. People would sign in, poke around and go "huh that's cool" and then close it and go back to Windows PC's or their iphones or something. Google could afford selling them for low prices because they were planning to track absolutely everything you did and sell all that data, so even with a lot of sales, they were barely making profit.
