First off, I've been a hardcore AMD supporter for quite some time.

Complete video card history:

TNT2
Geforce 2 GTS
Geforce 4 ti 4200
9800 Pro
7800GS
x1950 Pro
3850
5850
6950
380 (short lived)

As you can see, I've been straight AMD/ATI since 2006.

Unfortunately, at least for now those days are over.

The hardware has always been top-notch, but sadly the drivers have been wanting for some time now.

I'd say the issues really became prevalent around the 5850's launch.

Shortly thereafter, it became a constant game of "finding the best driver for ______ game". Once I found the one that worked best for me, I stuck with it.
The 10.4a driver for Battlefield: BC2 on the 5850 and the 12.8/13.12/14.12 drivers for the 6950 immediately come to mind etc.

I decided to give AMD one more chance and picked up a 380 4GB about two weeks ago.

There were no HUGE issues really, just a lot of little hassles.

So yesterday after much contemplation, I packed up the card, took it back to Microcenter, and exchanged it for a 960 4GB.

Make no mistake, I am fully aware of the 960's 128-bit bus and the fact that it is approximately 15% slower than the 380.

But, between Nvidia's much more frequent driver updates, market dominance, Fallout 4's apparent system requirements, and the overwhelming ease
of use/lack of issues, I decided to switch over to the green team.

I have to say, I am very pleased with my decision thus far.

Please, don't flame me. I just felt the need to express my opinions/impressions etc.

Make no mistake, if AMD gets it act together, I'll gladly switch back.

But for now, it looks like my love affair with AMD hardware has finally come to an end.

I've switched back and forth for the last few years and I've generally been happier with Nvidia just from the more stable drivers. I had a 5830, which had weird issues, then I got a GTX 570 which was awesome, then that died on me, so I replaced it with a R9 270X (got it for free from cryptocurrency mining/trading when it came out), that worked great actually but I had some weird problems in my old computer with it (current computer it's working fine though...), then I got a GTX 970 which has been awesome and has no issues except the 3.5 problem which I only encountered in GTA 5 so far.

No, they have the only driver which doesn't suffer from screen tearing. Plus nvidia has substandard egl support. Why on earth would you think that amd has bad drivers when nvidia's are far worse.

this is the kinda bullshit that's keeping me from buying it. i love TW1, haven't finished TW1 because it got boring (and dat grass pop in 20 foot load distance ugh), but man i really want to play TW3 in the best graphics possible.

like i play skyrim with a fuck ton of 4k textures.

how is the modding community for TW3??? is it anywhere near as good as skyrim? is it NEXUS supported? any good mod organizers?

i've spent years modding skyrim so i'm not about to dive into a pool of shit modding TW3 without some foresight.

bought the game again when i got my pc, got a few mods and such...

there are a few worthewhile gameplay mods, but nothing near as good as skyrim's mods. i also play skyrim with 4k textures and one of the most intense ENBs available.

just hop on nexus and look at the top mods, decide for yourself.

im going to wait for the second DLC pack to come out before i play through it again. by then maybe there will be more and better mods.

it still looks really good in certain areas. pic related, with E3FX on i think. will post another

standardized benchmark programs are easily swayed by one brand over the other. one technology of software over the other.

real world real game fps is true benchmark BUT even then it can be tainted with special drivers and coding.

'high' detail on x brand card might not be 'high' detail on another.

but who is spending big bucks on fixing game benchmarks when 'xmark and ymark and zmark' can all be paid off for better performance with x card or z card?

proper legit benchmarks must be based on real world games pushing the real work in real time.

Man it's exhausting watching the back and forth on the 390/970 when you are on the fence. The driver stability shit is just a maymay right? Like I've gone Nvidia all my buys but the 390 looks 2good to not buy, but I don't want headaches of faulty drivers. It happens once and a while with nvidia, but fairly infrequent. Is it really that bad? Fuck the 3.5 shit. If Nvidia wouldn't pull shit like this for the prices that ask I'd have no problem staying with them but I can't afford a 980, much less the ti. realistically, skyrim isn't pushing the gpu. it's the bullshit the engine offloads to the cpu that slows it down.

that's just how it is, the 390 is just a overclocked 290 with increased voltages and tighter memory timings, the 290 not even overclocked could beat a 970 back then and now is not different, the only reason to buy a 390 over a 290 is the improved coolers on them which Sapphire already had on the 290 anyway, amd users who bought a 390 are really retarded.

if you want to visit india and just see the touristy parts and live with all normal comforts, it's easy to find decent hotel accommodations.
if you go backpacking on a budget, you're more at risk at facing what most Indian citizens do on a day-by-day basis.

I'm poor but looking to upgrade my GPU for SFV's upcoming release (a game built on UE4). Minimum specs says it needs 'NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 480, GTX 570, GTX 670, or better' but I know devs sometimes overestimate minimum reqs.

Considering I'm shopping on such a budget do you think a GT 740 (GDDR5) would suffice for 720p?

Non GTX cards are potato and virtually a waste of space. Better off hunting down used cards.

i'm not sure what you mean, but the figures india report are more likely to be accurate given that the government can't get away with lying when there are numerous 3rd parties and NGOs freely doing their own research and publishing their own reports.

maybe, but being attractive also comes with a great deal of preference in business and marriage, and it is the folks that are poorest and most backward are overwhelmingly the targets of rape because they don't have any social capital.
