To find out if your resolution is 4:3 take the last number of the resolution (EG 640:480, use 480) multiply that by 4 then divide by 3. That should give you your first number (640). You can use that with other resolutions, too, 16:9, 16:10 and yours, 5:4. That's the math behind it. At least its my math.

Or you can just not be retarded and find the HCF of the two numbers, divide both by that number, bim bam boom you have your aspect ratio.

e.g.: 1920x1080 -> HCF 120 -> 16:9

No guessing and checking, just do it once and you have it.

It's called gcd and you use the Euclidean algorithm to find it.

1920 = 1*1080 + 840
1080 = 1*840 + 240
840 = 3*240 + 120
240 = 2*120

GCD is 120.

Common
Divisor ~= Factor

In fact factor is a better word than divisor since divisor leaves it unclear (without prior knowledge of the GCD term) whether we're working with integers or real numbers.
