Also the mere megabytes of difference between the two doesn't fucking matter, and vi(m) and emacs users are EQUALLY productive (holy shit) when programming in real life. The editor wars are over now that 4GB of RAM and a few hundred GB of disk space is standard.
But vi(m) users are much better at composing terse-looking macros. Gotta give them that.
Anyways, since "bloat" is the concern apparently, if you really cared about bloat in 2015 you'd have replaced your GNU or BSD userland with plan 9 from user space by now. "vi" in that is a MIPS simulator, and it doesn't have any of your silly "terminal emulators", since the plan 9 approach considers those dead and terrible for working with shells.
