>>51096434Not denying they're king. Without a doubt they are. Im merely saying that windows is used so much because that is what the company/sysadmin was given to work with from the get go. How should I put this.
Im not denying the effectiveness of windows server, more just Linux in the mainstream is never a considered alternative. For isntance my uni. During internship, guy told me they used to run debian server. Then they bought new rackmount servers from Dell and got some crazy discount on windows. So the higher ups took it. Then they got win7 thin clients. It was downhill from there. Too deeply entrenched in the Microsoft eco system to consider leaving.
I dont even work in IT. I move boxes in a warehouse and even our inventory system before the change over to SAP was much faster before the servers and system changed to a more windows based setup. Both on the RF units and servers. Sluggish as shit now.
>Sys admin major here. Any tips to getting started in the field? Is there such a thing as part time admin work or even just admin helper? I make too much money in my cushy union warehouse job to just up and leave.
