Sure, for games it depends on games being ported, but it is better.
Never mind Valve and game makers can rely on it indefinitely and do not really need to bother with annoying Microsoft "end of support" issues. Oh, GFWL was an abortion, but ending it wasn't graceful. New DirectX versions only existing on new versions of Windows also required almost developing half an engine about twice for many games. No longer shipping libs broke older games' installers. And so on and so forth.
