I've always enjoyed more minimalist/modern design styles from the 1950s and 1960s, but I find that, by the 1970s onwards, they became too cold and sterile for my tastes.

Can any more experienced designfags help me to try and figure out what exactly changed?

Alot of things changed. The answer is really complex because design is much more than simple execution of techinical skill. It's a part of culture. The various forces that facilitate changes in culture also affect design. These forces are numerous and include philosophy, technology, politics, people's tastes. Then you have to take into account changes in education.

I know that's not really an in depth answer, but to go in depth would require a full-on thesis. You have to take into account your own personal bias and ignorance as well. The things you like might change based on what you understand about design. Learning more about design theory(s) will change how you look at design. The professional and the amateur do not see the same thing.

Also, people still make the type of design you posted. Minimalist design is still used alot where communication needs to be quick and simple and printing is basic. On cardboard boxes, for example.

If it's just a history view, Meggs or something along those lines (don't forget that History doesn't start or end at a certain point, it's ever changing and evolving depending on large factors as wars or smaller factors as that day the someone found out something about something).

If it's more of a "why doesn't anyone do the kind of stuff I like anymore", you have the chance to do it yourself.

Landed 3 internships and my current full-time job working from my own PC laptop. Don't listen to these posers OP, you've got the right idea.

Just buy something with at least i5, a decent amount of ram (8gb or more) and a dedicated graphics card of some kind. Job done.

I wonder if we will look back on 'rugged' 'beard' 'blacksmith' 'tattoo parlour' 'workingclass' graphic-ideas being adopted by marketers, even though they span from pre to anti capitalism, to non-capitalist, in much the same way.

capitalism is so malleable and excellent. It is kind of annoying /gd/ just buys into capitalism at every turn, there is no critical design at all here.

It looks like the whole arm was vectorized using auto-tracing or something which gives it the wobbly-bobbly lines. It doesn't bother me elsewhere, I would suggest you manually trace the fist to give it a clean look.

I'm not a fan of the font nor the placing of nuklear silver, but whatever, what drives me crazy is that it's a different shade of black than the whole thing

Damn, cant believe I missed the discoloring. Going to change that right away. You're right about the fist as well, I'll smooth some part while leaving little bumps here and there, just like the lettering.

Also figured the subtitle should be more related to fisting. Anyone know any good acronyms? I checked urban dictionary but found nothing good there. Just something in the sense of 'Deep Plowing HD Remix'.

I'm gonna add some sharp highlights to the text as well, see how that looks. Getting back to this later today/tomorrow.

The sharp, eroded, rugged ends of the font look great as is, but now that you've added a black "shadow", the ends get rounded and look mushy.

If I were to change it, I'd draw the "shadows" by hand with similar rugged brushes with black.Well, anything but those rounded strokes.

I'd change the font and color for the "FOR A" text. Blue, maybe? Or white.

Finally, I'd add a stripe/rad brush stroke behind the "NUKLEAR SILVER"
