I personally like the ones that can double as really tiny posters, but then again I'm poor and collecting pretty looking business cards for inspiration is fun for me. Something that stands out is definitely better; I feel like the stereotypical business card is kind of pointless, considering the industry kind of requires you to stand out a bit.

Pretty much. I have friends who went for various things (none for anything /gd/ related) and they're still working in coffee shops and grocery stores.

it's not just ocad. you'll find its like that at most art/design colleges now.

pre-teens with pirated adobe products and spec-work sites have beat the shit out of the industry.

I've relayed contract/job opportunities to other people several times based on them having given me their business card previously.

If they hadn't given me their business card, chances that I would've remembered their contact info (and could be arsed to look it up just to refer them to someone else) would be fuckall.

So yes, they do work.

You're relying too much on the notion that a degree can take you somewhere instead of the reality that only you can take yourself somewhere. A degree is just a degree, no matter where it's from. You have to be interested in what you're learning and keep wanting to learn more (and that's a "throughout your life" thing).

Yes, but theres plenty of people who want to take a stance and design for purpose. However its kind of hard when sustsinable design is a walking oxymoron for a graphic designer, its more suited to ID, ED, and MAAD
