Is DLsite legitimate? Does anyone else use it?

I only ask because I tried to buy a game from there, and while setting up my credit card info they tried to charge me a penny and my bank shut down the transaction.

In my experience charging a penny is something someone trying to commit credit card fraud does to test the card.

My bank definitely blocked the charge. Charging a penny, especially in a foreign country, is a very common fraud tactic. I had them unblock it today and make a note that charges might happen in Japan. But I didnt want to go back again if I didnt have outside opinions. So thanks for the input.

It's legit, the main problem is that their catalog is fucking awful. They also sometimes use various forms of DRM, though it's much more common on the Japanese side. Though all the DRM can be bypassed fairly easily, you just need the right programs.

If you have a working credit card I highly recommend using the Japanese version of DLsite instead, you'll learn to navigate the site quick enough with some Google translate and their catalog is MASSIVE in comparison.

In my experience, you're also retarded. They make the hold to see if it goes through, but they don't charge you the penny. Do you call gas stations scams too when they place a hold for more funds than what you pay for gas?

But if you're really such a moronic faggot, here's what you can do:
1. create an account
2. get a paypal account
3. Buy a paypal cash card or get a prepaid gift card
4. Fill up your paypal with cash
5. go to the worksafe version of DLSite and buy DLsite points using paypal.
6. Use the points to get lewd games and images and CDs without worrying.

Or you can stop being a fucking faggot and learn how to use Share/PD and save your money.

Pretty rarely I think, mostly because the English side gets very little traffic and isn't worth the trouble of paying major attention to.

The Japanese site has fairly regular campaigns, the most common being get 20% points from all purchases (so not a direct sale but buy 1000 yen of material, you get 200 points which can be used for 200 yen discount). They did have a 50% off sale campaign a fair amount of manga tankobons/doujins before C88.

dmm and dlsite has a flexible rate from 50% to 20% (depending on price), I'd say that's in line with what other digital distribution services charge: steam, app store, google play etc all take a flat 30%.
dlsite and dmm beats 30% at $13~ and up.

A program called viewerrip is available on the ehentai forums, it allows you to extract images from .dlst/.dmm files after you've opened them on the DLsite/DMM reader software.

Systools PDF Unlocker allows you to easily unlock any locked PDF's and you can then use any of a large variety of programs to extract the images. I personally use Adobe Reader X (the full thing, not the limited Acrobat Reader). Locked PDF's are pretty common distribution method for Japanese digital distribution sites. Keyring or Cyberguard protected PDF's I don't have software for but I know someone who can bypass those for me, luckily they are extremely rare these days.

and this random amount had to be entered back into paypal to ENSURE that YOU were the rightful owner of the bank account, and that the card was indeed valid.

charing a penny on the other hand just seems like they just want to know if your card work. at that point, if it does they can do whatever they want with your moneyz.

Never had any problems yet.
Other than occasionally having to mess around with Japanese language packs and AppLocale settings on my PC to make the games work sometimes.

Sites like YoungMike (seriously fuck him though), ZeoArchives (not a horrendous human being: see mirror links), and LeonX (Please never support this guy) sometimes upload content not found elsewhere. If I had to pick, valwin from ZeoArchives, them Zippyshare links are less cancerous than having to wait 10 years for slow downloads or pay into some subscription bullshit.
The others beg for donations and justify it by pointing at hosting bills. Hint hint, they host on free blogging platforms, host files on free services and host images externally for free as well.
If you're somehow allergic to torrents and need DDL, consider that site. Otherwise if you're a hero and want to brave Eyny (btw you can register without confirming email for max speed), they supply MEGA links fairly frequently on a ton of content.
