I ended up just trimming down the video in QuickTime, saving an MP4, and uploading it to gfycat, which automatically optimizes and cuts out sound. Follow the link it gives you and download the webm. The only issue with gfycat is they only allow 15 second clips. But most of the time, it works just fine for me.
Again, Windows might have more varied webm converters.
