You need to practice anatomy before even thinking of doing character designs.I like the first one&the blue one,but as i said,you arent going to get anywhere with a poor understanding of how faces/bodies/textures work.I recomend figure drawing,still life and croquis.Keep up the work buddy

I don't know if the last anon is right when it comes to keeping away from character design. I know that my original characters were a driving force behind my artistic development- having, developing, and drawing your characters will help you no matter your skill level. They're a great motivator, so don't give up on them!

I will have to say that the last anon was right about learning anatomy and improving your technical skills. I suggest looking at real photos of people, or actual faces you see in real life. Slowing down and taking time to learn the human figure will improve your art 2x or more pretty quickly.

Your designs look pretty cool so far! Is there any story behind these guys?

Yes there is actually. I'm trying to make a web comic series that revolves around and artists characters coming to life and him starting to live his own plot. I haven't really given any character arch or anything I've just got down to the design that's all. Thanks for the encouragement and nice recreation!

He mostly jumps out from shitty job to shittier job, and gets fired or quits easily, but he does get enough money to eat and smoke. He also steals them if he has the chance. I smoke a lot as well, and you could be surprised by how fast you can burn packets of cigarrettes if you smoke without a break.

I think you have to be inspired to create something and just draw.....
It's simple as that. you'll get better over time.
Push yourself but don't beat yourself up.
Drawing is meant to be fun. But you'll be hitting your head against the wall some days.
Art is both loving and hating yourself at the same time.
So my advice is be o.k with the struggle.

like anything in life, drawing is really just a matter of putting the hours in. Like driving, math, or literally anything else that isn't brain dead easy. It's going to take time and that's a simple fact.

99% of artists have highs and lows, high on feeling good about your art, and lows of feeling like you suck and everyone else is better. These come and go and no matter how good you get it almost never fades.

Do it everyday. If you want to get serious, stop playing video games and draw/paint instead, eventually it'll become your way to escape/entertain yourself. You won't miss video games and drawing will be a way to unwind and you'll enjoy doing it and you'll get better. You'll still have lows though.

Don't go on /ic/ you'll get sucked into terrible art drama that'll eat up your time, a lot of artists spend way too much of their valuable time on there. There're some pretty good artists on there, but just stay away.

This is a good point that a lot of people don't fully realize. When looking at really good art online, you're only seeing the finished product of YEARS of work and not when they could barely draw someone's face or understand how to draw basic forms. It's easy to get discouraged when looking at other's work, but almost every single artist was really terrible at some point in their life.
