It was this combination of continued effort towards his art, continual drug use, mental illness and breakdowns that his art gained it's truly remarkable and surreal quality. I don't think you can get art like his without being quite a bit crazy.
So as for being a genius, Dali was quite mad.
Is being a mentally ill drug addict the same as genius? Does it matter if they're even conflated? Is madness genius?
So, was Deli a genius?
Depending on your opinion he probably was.
