I grabbed a set of Spectrum Noir Warm Greys for $10 from a retail outlet. Not sure how much copics are.

Came with 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 BG values.

There is something that just feels righ about the legit copic square formfactor - they are overpriced as fuck, but it feels good, buying them one by one from the hugeass store stand as you need them, slowly expanding your color/value range.

If you need a lot of them at once go for a diff brand like letraset, prismacolor or touch twin markers. If you have your heart set on copics get a few at a time id start with greys

You need to learn to think in values and shapes, not lines. If you have a value range of greys you can draw anything and not have to worry about which colors work well with eachother. You might draw something awesome but your color choice ruins it because you don't know enough about color theory yet.

i had the very same problem, was standing by the copic stand for like half an hour, tried bunch of them and finally decided to go for the toner (have only like 3, not all 11 ofc)

I have cool, warm and neutral and i bascially use only the neutral. The problem with markers a lot of the time is that they are really saturated so the cool gray is way to blue for my taste
