Instead of leaving things to chance, then doing a meaningless postmortem to find continuous lines, you exploit and change to create them. You purposefully put them in to better the whole. Slight changes to the position of a limb, a contour line, a core shadow, etc is done intentionally to create rhythm lines. This is designing.
The purpose of that diagram is to show many different possible places you can find and emphasize rhythm lines with the natural curvatures of the leg.
