I also recommend collecting lots and lots of refs for joints, hinges etc for those little leg details, and also lots of aviation photos (I personally love helicopters most). Divide process into 1 designing- do silhouette, simplified 3/4 drafts, whatever You choose and then 2- execute by drawing more detailed concept with perspective in mind. I like to use oldschool method- I start off with a "marker" brush (some triangle brush set to low opacity, and pressure transparency) to block proportions etc, and then I proceed with one of my two favourite "inking" brushes. I set those to size- pressure, full opacity and close to black color (usually almost 100% black, but with a hint of a bluish, or red hue). I've learned not to get caught in a trap of trying to be perfect when inking. I think having a little imperfections (like drawing thick line by moving a brush over it twice instead of just one thick stroke, same with thin lines, outlines etc)
