>>2264364It's just mileage you need. Do more studies like this as well as lots of quicker ones. Maybe get a timer on your desk and practice some studies done in 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1h etc.
Also worth trying to figure out a bit about photoshop too, experiment with different brushsets and different brush settings, the mixer brush, layer modes, etc. Try painting more opaquely, try painting transparently, try painting with clipping masks, try painting with a tight line drawing to start, try painting without any lines at all. Do everything and anything you can think of.
Also as the other anon said, resize. We only need 1k pixels MAX on the long side. A 600x800 image is plenty big to see stuff, hell even a thumbnail is enough to see your skill level.
