Just did a 12 hour day at the office working on concept art. It's really not that hard compared to physical labor or work you hate.

It's fantastic to be surrounded by other creative individuals who have paid their due's and recognize the same value in your skillset.
One of my colleagues worked with Glenn Vilppu when they were both at Disney.
Spending 12 hours at the office isn't a chore because I would still be painting when I get home. Those days when I need it I can go home from work and not even pick up a pencil because I spent all day drawing and painting(Hasn't happened yet but what a luxury compared to when I was learning to draw!!).

We were all struggeling, sad and angry at one point. A lot of you out there won't believe me when I say this but: Do good work, Make sure other people see that you do good work and you will get recognized for it.

Thanks dude that's kind words. It's just off putting because you're not told these sort of things, and finding out can be quite a shock, but I guess if you do enjoy and I myself do enjoy drawing and creating I guess it won't be difficult as I assume it could be to someone who is just not prepared or confident in their ability for e.g. if that makes sense?

Basically I wanted to go to FZD at somepoint but I guess it's kind of thwarted.

I do want to desing though ad work in that field with other creative people, but thi8s just made it look clinical and void of life and not very fun at all.

To make money from something I lo9ve would be a plus, I just dont want it to be as much as a chore as working in a retail supermarket.

Any tips then? You don't have to work 18 hours at all, More like 2-4 if you work every single day and you can self-critique so you never stagnate in the learning process.
That last thing is a big ask so I would recommend getting a Mentor or finding someone online that is better than you.
If you avoid the pro's you can easily get critiques without having to pay for them.
Most of them are just happy to help because they have been where you are.

Not quite sure what your driving at. A 6 hour work day is obviously too short. 8 hours at least 10 would be better. Sure you'll have late days some times in a crunch but as a regular thing you'll burn out.

If you'll also note sweden isn't exactly known for creating anything of great value (business wise) in the last century, they're generally lazy. Like most of europe.

Fzd is all about promoting their school. And this just adds to it.

I'm freelancing for a while now. Of course i'm not doing 6figures. Closer to 1500 a month after taxes and contribution paid, so 3000 paid by clients. I usually work between 6-8 hours a day and take my weekends.

Of course i could do a hell of a lot more would i work 12 hours a day. But money isn't my goal. I prefer to have the extra time to work on things i actually want to draw.

my classmates come from all backgrounds from physics majors to people with previews experience in the industry , but overall everyone is cool and the stronger guys help the weaker , also a couple retards that will soonner or later drop out

Sorry man. I'd love to if it wasn't ic. But i really don't have a thick enough skin to confront everything ic is capable at throwing at me. i know just to well how ic works. It start out with one troll. Then someone pretends to be you. Then one month from know you're the guy everyone knows for saying something you never said.

But if you want an idea. Let me just tell you that most of my work isn't what i actually have in my portfolio. Most jobs aren't really things i want to show. It's mostly flyers for enterprises depicting safety measures and other odd jobs that you don't iven know exists.
I once had to make a flyer depicting how concrete blocks were made so that the enterprise could advertise to their auctioneer.
The thing is those type of work pay well because these guys are happy to know that someone can draw at all. If you are only slightly above average your set for life... They won't look for someone. Once you're the draw guy. They'll come back again and again because they don't know any better.

But i've been trying to get more work on things i actually want to draw. This month i got a publishing work for 16 black and white images to depict a novel. I wouldn't have gotten this job if i posted my other jobs on my portfolio.

As for the work you do, is it solely you that does it or you part of a team?! Do you work in an office I'm just curious because I trying to decide whee to take my future, and much as I love the industry I think I'm looking at in rose-tinted glasses. The FZD vid op posted has literally crushed my dreams of going there, I understand the need to get those 10,000 hours under your belt and 1 year at FZD would be a great boost, but it seems very militant, I like to have fun at what I do and it seems like a contradiction, you go there to make cool things but at the same time the beat the cool and fun out of you so it looks drained, and some of the art they produce is beautiful but to me there's always something missing

Yes perspective is really important.

I only do freelance jobs. It's harder especially in the beginning because you don't have regular clients and the taxes are way higher at least where i'm from. I have a hard time being social or an team-player so the trade off fits my personality more. But it's more stressful because i never know if i'll have work next month or not.

I really can't talk for everyone. But getting work at first seems really arbitrary at first. I had a electrician come by my apartment to fix something. I talked to him and he asked what i do. So i showed him my work. a few month later i get an email from some company that wants to do a small brochure and an employee at that company had recommend me when they asked if someone knew someone who can draw. they then recommended me later on to some other company because they liked what i've done.

Of course these aren't the jobs I dream of and quite frankly. I don't like doing them. But in the mean time you can get buy and slowly build up a portfolio that gets you the jobs you want.
All i really want to say is that most people are happy with way less then you would think.

As for fdz. I know someone who went and honestly he didn't like it at all. At the mid term he was really considering if he should quit or continue. I didn't speak with him since. But from what i understand. He only saw feng zhu rarely.
The teacher basically come in. Do a quick demo. then tell you to do x times the same exercice for tomorrow, then leave. You get quickly grouped into classes that are skilled or unskilled. The one with skills gets the most attention and the other class is slowly pushed to quit so that only the good guys graduate.
Of course he was angry and you can't take it at face value.But that's what he told me.
Then again, from my understanding. There is not much you can do to get better except grind. So one year of fzd can only get you so far iven if you grind a lot. Getting good takes time.

Not for everyone of course. I know people who really did power through hours of work, full on nose, grindstone, etc. But there are way more who brag about absurd hours, but spend most of the time eating, or complaining about those same long hours, etc. I know one guy who set up a small movie station and spent half his day watching stuff, and would then post on Facebook at like three am about 'the struggle is real.'

Don't be a masochist about this stuff. Do what it takes for quality work. And leave time for yourself, you'll end up creatively bankrupt if you don't experience life at least a little each week.

I don't think you have any idea what designing is. It's not just flashy concept art with spikes and fire lol.

I got to know Charles and the instructors during my time at FZD. They are all good guys that have a very solid understanding of designing for production. That being said, all of Charles' work is very marketable.

FZD isn't suppose to be about fun at all. What Feng talks about is having fun once you already have a job. For him, he doesn't need to work 18 hours a day since he already has a solid career. He talks about not working yourself to the bone once you already made it. But he believes that in order to make it, you need to work as much as you can to land that first job. So no, FZD isn't all sunshine and bubblegum that leads to Feng getting you a career at the end. It's just an intense school for people that really want to do this for a job. They don't focus on pretty pictures or flashy fanart. They just teach you whatever is marketable so you can work after.

Sorry if this turned into a little rant or if I repeated some things. I just hear a lot of shit about FZD and it kind of bothers me because the people that talk the most shit are people who have never attended the school.
