I always speak South Koreans who are terrified of a Japanese military buildup. They honestly think it is a prelude for an invasion of the Korean peninsula.

How would this ever work, without Japan getting curbstomped by the Chinese and Russians?

This too, but this doesn't seem to dissuade the South Korean paranoia. They think that an invasion of North Korea (in the event of some kind of clandestine war that is presently being planned) would effectively make them an occupying force.
