>>49933620>Moving on, would you marry your 6 year old daughter off to a guy in his mid 50sToday, no.
If I was living in the 6th century AD? Probably.
Because it was the normal, socially expected thing to do and all my neighbors would be doing it, as would my relatives and extended family. And the girl would be protected by the man and his family, not just passed around like some basement sex toy.
You have to understand, child marriage was the norm at this time. All of these ancient civilizations practiced it. Romans, Greeks, Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, etc.
Aisha was even engaged to be married to another older man at the age of 5, before Muhammad came in and married her at 6 and took her home at 9.
>If the marriage was 'strategic' as it seems to have been described by some apologists, what was the need for it to have been consummated at a point when this girl was still playing with dolls???It was absolutely strategic, there's no doubt about that. Western historians and Muslims both agree on that point. But the accounts by Aisha (and we have a TON) also show an actual normal relationship between Muhammad and Aisha in which they debated, discussed, and had feelings for each other.
