>>49934437>-Where the Inuit racist as hell? Not to me (white guy) they seemed like normal blue collared folk .
>-Are there any decent people there or are they mostly just professional alcoholics and assholes? The guys I mainly interacted with were decent and hard working (they ran a hotel I was there for work) but there were drunks wandering the streets at midday and the bars were filled with alcoholic looks dudes
>-Do any of them still care about their heritage?A lot of tribal tats but either than that not really.
>-What's the internet and phone situation like up there?Absolute shite. Phone is mostly cellphones with shitty reception and internet is slow as fuck(most of it is satellite based) and has crazy data caps.
>-Could you see yourself living there? No. I'd visit to experience the tundra but it's just too boring for me.
>-People down where I live constantly bitch about the cold but I don't mind it so much - dress in enough layers and the cold is nothing. Is it the same that far up north? What are some good parkas and boots? I don't know if I'll ever be able to move there but I would like to spend a lot of time traveling there, so I wanna make sure I have the right gear.I went in February so at the height of winter. It's dangerously cold up there. Most cars won't run and the few that do need to be "hitched" in front of a store(connected to power) and never turned off. The only respite is it's a "dry" cold but at that temp it doesn't matter much.
Sorry, I'm no expert on cold gear, I only went up once for a few days and worked indoors mainly. My canada goose jacket was fine for the most part but you definitely need to layer. Oh and boots are super important, My toes started freezing so I had to borrow a locals shoes (made from seal and reindeer hide)
