Yes another army would have done the same, but I've also heard a lot of stories from my grandparents about the conduct of the Canadians who liberated them, specifically that they had a reputation for giving candy to children and generally doing what they could to help as they came through.
There's also the thing with the royal family during the war. Also the large dutch Canadian population may contribute to it somewhat as well, dunno.
There are at least a million Canadians who claim dutch heritage. Obviously varying from "actually dutch" to "muh heritage".
My oma and opa being the first, and myself being sort of in the middle maybe closer to the right I guess.
