It was tropical enough for there to be a bunch of diseases. White people wouldn't settle there, because they didn't want to die from malaria.

Getting there required going around the cape of good hope, which took forever.

Didn't have any easily exploitable resources.

Look at colonies at similar latitudes. Brazil, Congo, Mozambique. None of them turned out very well.

To be fair the UK had a massive advantage with our geographical position meaning we could get places a lot quicker. Also idk if you've ever visited the UK but it's so appalling shit you can't help but want to go romp around Africa and the Americas

All the ex-British colonies that are successful are places that had a very, very sparse native population. The USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. Their African & Asian colonies are pretty much as shitty as any other country's, because their native population wasn't replaced by white Brits.

Also, they literally managed to steal all the good non-British colonies (Canada & South Africa). Canada could have been the one good French colony even if the British hadn't controlled, I think.

It's not that. Europeans could only settle places that didn't have Malaria. There was large British settlements in the Kenyan and Tanzanian highlands. Essentially 35 degrees north to 35 degrees south couldn't be settled by Europeans until quinine.

No. New France was based on the seignuery system, which is just French for Feudalism. It would never have advanced, or would have revolted like America.
