Putins popularity is at a record high and it's leaking out of Russia. Even in Australian comment sections in various places I see people like him and shittalk the US all the time. Western propaganda against Russia is starting to fail.

He is a great leader, he just chooses poor economic counselors. From what I understand, Russian morale and society were completely fucked over after the USSR dissolution, and he managed to at least give a purpose to the Russian masses (which just cannot work without being in a state of servitude, they still have a "medieval" mentality). He also managed to get Russia back on the diplomatic game big time (even if it's now costing Russia a lot of money)

How is it sickening, it's very consistent with behavior of empires. To its populace the Roman Empire for instance never fought an aggressive war against anyone. Whether you like it or not the annexation of Crimea was a huge fucking, it was a blatant disregard for the sovereignty of Ukraine.
Perhaps if Crimea would have voted from independence without it being occupied by unmarked Russian soldiers, then there wouldn't be sanctions, but that wasn't the case.

Russia sees no problem in frozen conflict in Ukraine like the rest of the world. They don't care that with that frozen conflict Ukraine can't really do anything. They can't grow. They can't make money. They can't enter EU. They can't reform either. They can't do anything.

Today's Russia is a joke. They are sitting behind their nukes acting hard. With a population only half of US, not even comparing them to China.
