Despicable. Christians spend almost 1,000 years trying to destroy our traditions and you guys just go ahead and give up on them once Christianity is good and dead. Next you'll tell me you don't teach you children about Santa Claus or Easter.

We are a pagan culture conquered by Christianity, m8. Everything about western culture is rooted in the European pagan beliefs and traditions. Soon Christianity will be no more but our old pagan traditions will continue like they do now.

Exactly, we are pagan cultures who had Christianity forced on us and tried to kill our traditions and cultures by burning and torturing the pagans, but no matter what they could not get rid of these holidays so they just tried to replace the old gods with Jesus and succeeded.

Halloween however is exclusively pagan. They were never able to and probably never wanted to associate Jesus with it, but as we have done with most supernatural beliefs, we've brushed it off as nonsense and carry on all the rituals like carving jackolanterns to ward off evil spirits who might want to enter your home or to dress up as a ghost or monster to fool any spirits. But now it is all just for fun and has no super natural elements besides it's the time we think about spooky things and dress up for fun.

But Halloween is pure paganism. We dropped the gods and all the devilish stuff because we are Christians, but literally every aspect of it comes from pagan rituals.

Even though Romulus and Remus were technically the first god-emperors they're somewhat a legend, and noone was deified the first 500 years or so.
The first Roman emperor to become a god was Julius Caesar, but worship of the emperor became widespread with his heir Augustus Caesar.

This kept going until Constantine converted to Christianity.

These people also believed in Jupiter Mars and all that so yes pagans did worship the emperor.

And Easter is the Anglo Saxon God of spring. The rabbit and egg were the symbol of fertility and abundance. Again, we perform symbolic rituals around these gods and symbols but we have forgotten who these gods are and what the symbols mean. American have centered their culture and holidays around family love and togetherness, which is why so many of these take form here of children doing fun little projects as a family like making a costume or painting and hiding eggs. American culture is still to it's core those same ancient traditions in a modern form. We could really work on them though. Halloween could be so amazing if we tried to have a more classical Halloween.

I've heard about how pagan Christmas in Rome and other places ended up being huge orgies and that it was worship to some god of excess. Kind of fucked up when I think of modern comercialized Christmas. Pagan deities and indulgence in materialism. Westerners are fucking outright heathens.

It's 100% pagan and it was spread by the pagans who existed in New England and the Pacific northwest and Canada. Paganism survived strongly all over for a long long time. Maybe it's possible to take these pagan rituals we already have, forget about Christianity since it's boring and useless to us today anyway, and just celebrate the old European mythology and religion and celebrations from a 21st century perspective. Nothing but a celebration of old and fun traditions with interesting lore and just acknowledge the fact that we a re nothing in religious belief and mostly pagan and traditional celebration and ritual. If Christianity truly had its way there would be no semblance of the old European culture.

But you can't tell me pagan rituals down to the t being done is not still pagan culture. We don't believe in ghosts, so Halloween doesn't mean much to us other than to explore the world of frightening imagination. Still descended entirely from pagan tradition. If we want to save Halloween from becoming more utter crap than it is than we can remind people what Halloween really is about. Get people to convince kids they have to dress up like a ghost so that the other spirits think they themselves are spirits. That you carve a jackolantern to ward off any of the evil wandering spirits that might want to enter your home. Those few simple elements could turn the holiday into something not utterly tacky. The tricky part would be to inform Christians it's pagan and that we need to make it more pagan.

The name is Christianize but our practice of it has caused the churches to back away, because the most popular aspects are non Christian paganism. European history with Christianity is pretty much Europeans refusing to give it up and the church making desperate attempts to Christianize pagan rituals which inevitably worked.

But like I said, the pagan traditions will outlast Christianity in some form.
