Sweden ffs...

Among the many refugees, Sweden accepts, a large number of them are unaccompanied youth.

They give up their age to be 17 years or younger and therefore need special treatment, including better accommodation - possibly in foster care - have a guardian and ensure schooling.

But while the authorities in Denmark verify the information if the asylum seeker appears to be older than the alleged 17 years, it happens rarely in Sweden.according to Migrationsverket

Almost three out of four of those, Denmark verifies turns out to be over 18 years.

In Sweden the Swedish Migration Board implements no self-examination of the applicant's age if in doubt.

Instead SMB may choose to recommend the the asylum seeker to get a doctor's assessment of his or her age, if the caseworker suspects that age do not match reality says communications officer at the Swedish Migration Johanna Uhr.

>And here comes the best part

But the questions are hard to answer: Dental clinics and pediatricians refused to help to find out the age of young asylum seekers. Children Medical Association is dissatisfied with Migrationsverket age management assessments and called on its members not to implement them.

The result is that the Migration Board has no record of how large a part of the many unaccompanied refugee children in the country are actually adults, said Uhr.

This makes it the caseworkers assessment and the asylum seekers own information that is going to determine the age.
