I care very little for it. I don't plan to go there. Why should I pay the firebreathing Saudis to walk there, when I can stay here and probably do more good than in the weeks it would take to go on pilgrimage for my own satisfaction?
As a historic site, though, it's certainly interesting and needs to preserved. The faith would still exist without it, just like Catholicism would still exist without the Domus Sanctae Marthae.
