Good
- If you fulfil their expectations they'll leave you alone
- Everyone around you will do their work, and things will happen on time
- Your work hours will be precise, you start at 9 (that means ready to start AT 9) and finish at 5 sharp. That means downed tools and out the door unless it's an extreme exception.
- Germany in general has a very good standard of living, pretty cheap, beer is cheaper than soft drinks
- Every kind of subculture is represented. While mainstream German culture is VERY conventionalised, subcultures are huge. Whether you wanna play sport where you bash each other with foam staffs and wrestle over a dogs skull, or have your balls pierced by midgets, you can do it in Germany.
Bad
- Life is very inflexible and structured, very little surprising or exciting
- You'll be judged harshly if you're lax in any way, no slacking, no being late, no leeway, rules are rules, and that goes for in public too, don't jaywalk, use a ticket on the train, if you do drugs, be aware if you're caught there's no talking your way out of it.
- People are generally very serious about everything they do, work, hobbies, nothing is laid back in Germany really. Especially during activities.
- The Germans are organised to a fault. The German will get up at 5am to have everything ready for 9am, and it'll be perfect. But they're methodical. If there's a faster way of doing it, the German will do it the "right" way. And they are ALWAYS sure what is the "right" way.
Germany can be a paradise, but you might find it depressing too, something in the German people just seems to make them a bit lacking in soul or kindness when it comes to strangers.
