>>49983714I don't know how else to put it. France did not want war with Germany. Period. France entered the treaty precisely because it was afraid of a German attack. Because in the years leading up to the war, Germany was acting belligerently (e.g. Morocco crisis). Because France was in no position to withstand such attack, should it come.
Just look at your post. You are basically saying "if France didn't want to be attacked, it shouldn't have been worried about the attack which we were planning all along!"
France was actively working against a war. It was not in their interests. A-L was a distant memory with B-L deposits being much more valuable and the government being staunchly anti war, anti revanchist. The military was in no shape to face off against Germany. Unlike A-H, Germany and Russia, the military had next to no political power.
You dismiss all of this, all historical research and evidence as "France dindu nuffin bullshit". But it's not bullshit. It's the situation in 1914. Germany wanted war. France did not.
But don't take my word for it. Read works by Strachan or Herwig or Doughty. You know, actual historians of WW1.
