I think Cruz or any other of the establishment republicans could win a general election against Sanders but I'm not sure they can beat Hillary.
The big donors definitely want Hillary over Sanders because Sanders is completely serious when he talks about income redistribution and really making the rich pay taxes.
I think he is just to idealistic to play politics and thats why he defended Hillary, which I can respect but his ideals aren't the ones I want in the White House. Jimmy Carter was like that to an extent and his presidency wasn't great.
I'm not sure if he genuinely thinks he can will and I don't think he has any chance unless Hillary is indicted. But he is shaking things up a bit and in Sanders' mind that may be a win
