But more like, Poles were sleeping, it was night, Ukraniaians came and slaughtered the whole village (elderly, women and children included). Those were in the first days of the operation, until rumours spread and Polish peasants started to "fortify" themselves with the few weapons they had, many started to fleeing into the woods before the nights. UPA attacked mostly always under the cover of the night when people were asleep, or if so they thought. You have to realise that it was an ethnic cleansing OPERATION carried on by UPA on behalf of OUN-B's (Ukrainian intellectuals) directives. Massacring for an ethnically pure Ukraine, for a Ukraine without Poles, Jews and Russians. Armia Krajowa never planned a major ethnic cleansing operation during WW2 on civilians, they were combatants fighting against the Nazis and the Soviets, not civilians. Admitting they started to massacre Ukrainians as well, mostly UPA scum, but civilians as well in some cases, again in retaliation for their fallen ones and lands which they lived on as well for generations.
About 100,000-200,000 Poles have been massacred by UPA, compared to 20,000 Ukranianins by AK.
