Even though we repeatedly find evidence that requires a near completely rewrite of the entire idea. Just a few weeks ago it was big news(actual discovery is a lot older) about some homo-sapien remains that were found in Southern China that predated the time we were supposed to have left Africa by 50,000-60,000 years.
If we accepted the separate origin theory, it would implicitly acknowledge that races do exist, which academia right now would NEVER accept. People outside of academia don't understand just how brutally conforming academia is. Older researchers never want to be proven wrong, especially on major things. Stay in rank and file and keep pushing papers.
It's sort of like if the big bang was related to racial issues. Even though the big bang has massive holes in it(e.g, horizon problem, flatness problem, etc,) everyone believes it like the gospel because it's pop science.
