Finnish key success for defense in Winter War was that all units were from same White Guards which means that they were from same villages so they were each other neighbours.

That's how war should work. When you sign up, you're put in a regiment with people from your area. That way when you train, and when you go out to fight, you feel that you are fighting not just for the vague concept of a nation-state and its potentially disagreeable interests, but you're fighting for your neighbour, cousin, children, people you share a city, town or region with. You're fighting for home.

There wasn't surrender. If there was our country would be Russian now. We just had to made deal so war ended and we had to do it because Germany was defeated and USA and Brits were supporting Soviets.

Whole war Murmansk railroad transferred hundred of thousand tons materials from USA and Brits to Soviets.

I remember some military head saying that "away" wars are best fought by 100% pro armies and "home" wars are best fought by local conscripts. Or something like that.

Every man was in reserves so no recruitment needed. In White guards they trained together before war etc.
