The worst is all these new developments are those shitty rendered gray blocks that fall apart in 15 years.

My friend bought one and only 2 years in the load bearing walls are buckling and have massive cracks down them, the rendering is falling to bits (its only like 2 cm thick) and the house floods when it rains.

Why Australia seems to have the shittiest building standards of any developed country is beyond me, I mean FFS most houses don't even have insulation, not even new ones.

Fucking agree! I live in a wealthy, federation era suburb in Sydney, and around the entire area, there are shitty modern art style apartments. I absolutely hate it.
In particular, they shut down a row of locally owned shops that had been there for 20 years + and are turning it into this modern mid-rise garbage.

That sounds so stupid when people have been able to build houses that last for hundreds of years for a long time.
The new houses in Sweden look something like that too but i don't know if the rules here force them to be better built.

Back in the day they built houses to last despite not having rules.

it actually depends on the local council, the nicer areas in sydney (sutherland shire/north shore) do have laws like this but they apply only to specific buildings usually depending on the age of the structure
if you want a cheap new home in a cheap area then of course its going to be shit and your neighborhood will look shit

All Australian post-war buildings are shit, they were constructed on the fly for exploding population, most buildings from 1940-1990 are prefabbed asbestos.

Australias best buildings aesthetically and quality wise are pre-federation and I'm not even that much of a fan of Victorian architecture
