How did Spain managed to avoid both world wars?

Its like God giving them a break from their shitty 1700's-1800's decline by giving Europe 2 shit wars.

Sure there was the civil war but it was just one war compared to 2 huge buttfuckings.

What reasons had Spain to be interested into WWI?
Spain had little to offer during WWII (and Franco demanded a lot) also Brits bribed a lot of influential guys to keep them outside the war. When the war was over the Brits, again, were like "we aint gonna to fight another war".

Precisely. Not having any fucks to give helps.

Had we got a defence assurance for our colonial system in the late XIX then we would have joined the Dreibund, cause there were talks about it, but in the end didn't happen, so no reason to pick sides.

There were only 2 countries in the WW2 that suffered bigger structural destruction than the one suffered by Spain in the civil war: Germany and Western Russia. Spain was devastated when the WW2 started.

From every type of war, a civil war is indeed the most destructive type of war, economically, structurally and socially speaking. It took 15 years to Spain to achieve the gdp it had before the war. On the mean time, it took only 5 years to the major losers of the WW2 to recover the previous level of wealth (of course Spain didn't get the Marshall plan).

The WW1 was on the other hand a central European issue, even if it was called a world war (pretty much because it involved the colonies). Spain did have a profit by selling stuff to everyone. :^)

WWII it's obvious why they didn't participate - the country was in ruins and in no shape to fight. WWI was a little less clear, but Spain had no great reason to get involved in the war and also were still feeling the sting from 1898.

WWI wasn't our thing.
WWII we had germans doing german things (guernica) and then blue division, but minimal.

In WW2 Spain was devastated by the civil war -which you shouldn't underestimate btw, it left the country completely rek- and Franco needed good reasons to join Germany. It wasn't worth it.

I think he asked Hitler for half of North Africa and he didn't agree so that was it.
