Are americans at a disadvantage? We don't ever lurk on your country's internal news, but you guys do.
For e.g. I used to think Brazil was basically ok and russia was a europe tier country. But if it wasn't for /int/ I would never find out the truth.

I have noticed that sometimes Americans can be ridiculously ignorant when it comes to international news, not only that but also ridiculously ignorant when it comes to their own news, politics and history.

I think that they must have problems with their media and education systems because this whole 'finding Americans and asking them questions' thing is common as fuck. I've seen a bunch of videos where Americans are completely fucking clueless about the most basic shit. Arguably the videos could just be highly edited and there could be other factors at hand like Americans living in a 330m strong country so they're constantly bombarded with domestic news rather than foreign.

I mean, I've heard that a lot of British shows get remade in America because British shows are not considered something that will garner ratings in the USA... which to me sounds like bizarro land.

Australians are ignorant about South American news too. Did you knew Argentina has general election next year? But you can name 4 candidates of POTUS election. It's all about relevance. Can an average Thai man point out Netherlands and Denmark on the map? Hell I don't know how many Aussies can do it

So you thought brazil was basically ok, and now you think what? Have you been here or you based your new opinions on memes? A swedish friend of mine came here this year and liked it so much she is planning on living for 6 months in my city. It's definitely not a first world country, but it fits my social style.

We have very little to do with South America. I'm pretty sure that the only South American country that is part of the OECD is Chile anyway. This isn't unique amongst Australians - I'm pretty sure that it's reflected within the majority of European nations too.

And it's also irrelevant because the questions you asked does not apply to Americans either.

Your point about relevance is interesting though and makes me think that some of these videos are simply just highly edited because I can understand that if you're not interested in geography, geopolitics, politics or other countries or if you're economically disadvantaged you probably spend your life on other things and thinking about other things. IDK.

Film long enough and you can cherry pick many funny answers in any city in the world, I think Americans have a reputation for being thick not because they are stupid (they aren't) but because they feel compelled to voice their opinions on a matter even when they know fuck all about it.

Although I live in a city with a considerably high murder rate, it happens always in the same neighborhoods (poor people, who traffic drugs), the rest of us are safe enough.
