Once snowden started leaking shit regarding US relations with other countries it became treason.

As far as Snowden, You're really fucked when you have to live in Russia under constant surveillance in order to escape constant surveillance. If he didn't like how the government was tapping phone calls, well now he gets to deal with the likes of the FSB.
He is no more than a hostage with what used to be valuable information on the inner workings of the NSA. But, As you can imagine, once it was realized he was divulging information to a hostile country, you can bet the NSA changed it's protocol. So not only is he a hostage rat prisoner under constant surveillance, but he is a hostage rat prisoner under constant surveillance who's usefulness is running out.
Assange is a professional rat who's looking to be some sort of hero. He can't run to Russia because he's leaked information on them as well. The Russians aren't some charity for leakers. there is nothing in it for them to help Assange. Assange offers nothing.
