tbh it helps though, making crimes again is very unlikely here compared to other countries. If you rob something for example would it just be stupid to put the guy in the prison for +20 years which is expensive or try to rehabilitate him back to society and make him proper tax payer?

We need to get rid of three strikes and mandatory minimums, release people who are in prison for drug offenses, and offer more parole/house arrest for people who consistently demonstrate good behavior.

Also important, we need to foster the understanding that the criminal justice system is about improving society and not about providing a means of revenge for aggrieved people.
