They're gonna tear it down eventually, but it's probably the most interesting brutalist piece of architecture here. Its cladding is good, the inside spiral stairs are neat, and it even features a mural by Picasso. The high-rise to the left, which was bombed, is a more generic example of brutalism. Not nearly as interesting, too fat, and yet it's the one that's getting preserved.

That's depressing

This is pretty standard but it's one of the best examples in my city, especially since it's now the public transport authority headquarters and it's brutalist in function too. I think I'll be more sad if they gut it and fill it with apartments than if they just straight up knock it down.

Anything but. The style is litteraly called "Metallic Architecture", and is the same style as the crystal palace technically. It was also a precursor to Metallic Art Nouveau, and was oftenmelded with Beaux Arts Stone Architecture by the end of the century (see Rue du 4 septembre in Paris, or the Grand Palais).

Brutalist stands for "pure concrete", as in a big concrete thing with little effort to make it look good.
Function over form, just make it spacious, strong and cheap.

Seeing how the Eiffel tower isnt spacious, nor cheap, nor concrete, I wouldnt say its brutalist. Also it has no function, just form, making it the opposite of the brutalist ideal.

Also in London, the Brunswick Center in Bloomsbury. Nowadays it is mostly frequented by tourists on their way to the British Museum and students of the universities nearby. Pretty noice, but still quite an eye sore in the middle of a street composed of terraced georgian houses.

You remind me of this water tower not far from where I grew up. 20 years ago the shop at the base wasn't there yet. Back then it was just the tower with the tulip on it. Later they made an appartment into it, and a florist (very fitting) at the base..
